Former Investigator Releases New, Fast-Paced Mystery Novel 'Deadly Sins' Set in One of America's Most Violent Cities - Little Rock

Stacy M. Jones has just released her first mystery novel “Deadly Sins” in June 2018. A native New Yorker, Jones currently resides in Little Rock, Arkansas, where the novel is set. Little Rock often ranks among the top for most violent cities in America. But it’s not the gritty, poverty-stricken, gang-infested south side of the city Jones writes about. She chose instead as her backdrop Heights and Hillcrest, which are among the best neighborhoods in the city.

That’s what makes it the perfect setting for a mystery where the “ladies of Little Rock” are missing, several found dead, pulled from the Arkansas River. Murder, lust and lies rock this quiet, wealthy suburb. And in a neighborhood where gossip runs as free as the sweet tea and no one seems free of scandal, residents are hard-pressed to risk their reputations and admit to what they know. They wonder if the killer could really be one of their own.

Having spent her early career as an investigator, Jones essentially writes what she knows. Readers have already remarked about the authenticity of the drama, fast-paced story and the book’s ability to keep readers on the edge of their seat until the very end.

Readers have also noted that Jones has interwoven complicated personal relationships, old grudges and revenge into an already-complex homicide investigation. It’s this that readers have said give the characters such authenticity. Riley Sullivan, the main character, one reader described as, “Smart, sassy, tough and vulnerable all at the same time. She is totally relatable and many of us know her or want a woman just like her to have our backs.” Riley is also a “Yankee” in the deep south - an outsider at every turn.

“Many times in crime fiction, the female lead is tough and unemotional but that’s not always real life as people are complex,” says Jones. “I spent 10 years as an investigator and my emotions sometimes got in the way. I wanted that for my lead character. It makes her relatable and interesting. We all want a hero, but heroes can be flawed, messy and complicated sometimes.”
