SUSANNE BIER’S DANISH DRAMA ‘A 2ND CHANCE’ STARRING EMMY NOM, NIKOLAJ COSTER-WALDAU, TO HAVE LIMITED TWO-DAY ENGAGEMENT IN BULLETON, CA

A 2ND CHANCE // ROCK SALT RELEASING
Susanne Bier’s baby snatching Danish film with English subtitles, ‘A 2nd CHANCE’ captures the unthinkable and just how easily humans lose grasp on justice when life is hanging by a thread. To screen for a limited two-day engagement at Buellton’s Park Plaza theaters on July 25th and 26th.

BUELLTON, CA - July 18, 2018 - Oscar-winning and Emmy-nominated director Susanne Bier’s (‘The Night Manager’, ‘In A Better World’) baby snatching Danish drama ‘A 2nd CHANCE’ (En chance til) will screen for a special two-day run at Parks Plaza Buellton (CA) on July 25th and 26th.

Written by Ander Thomas Jensen (‘All You Need is Love’, ‘In A Better World’), ‘A 2nd CHANCE’ is a gritty, high-concept Nordic noir that captures baby snatching in a thrilling, new way cinema rarely experiences, with a rawperformance by Game of Thrones’ and recent Emmy nom, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, in his native tongue as Detective Andreas. “We seriously doubt you’ve ever seen him in the fine form he displays here. Whether it’s his native Danish tongue that brings it out of him, or he’s managed to completely connect with the ethical dilemmas facing Andreas, Coster-Waldau breathes life into his character through blood, sweat and tears,” wrote IndieWire.

Film summary:

Bier's baby snatching drama follows Detective Andreas (Coster-Waldau) and his drunken partner Simon (Ulrich Thomsen), who are alerted of a domestic disturbance at young junkies’ apartment where they discover a baby boy, covered in his own excrement. But when Andreas’ son of the same age suddenly passes and his wife falls into a dark depression, his life begins to unravel into one of ethical disarray and blurred morals, conflicted between right vs. wrong. Rooted in the foundations of love and parenthood, Bier’s direction invokes a strong and empowering female voice with open eyes to reflect our dark world. Despite his moral values and commitment to the law as a cop, Andreas captures the tragedy’s blur between just and unjust and the moral implications of his decisions that will affect both families. By snatching the child, Andreas captures the unthinkable and just how easily we lose our grasp on justice when life is hanging by thread. Is he doing the right thing? If so, who is it for?

‘A 2nd CHANCE’ first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2014 before its Denmark release in 2015. Arriving to the Statesin a time where children are forcibly separated from their parents, “the issues surrounding children being separated from their parents front page news in the States, thanks to Donald Trump’s immigration policy, it’s getting a long-awaited theatrical bow in the U.S.,” remarked Deadline exclusively.

By diving deep into human nature’s battle against tragedy, while tackling the complex, moral dilemmas of adulthood by showing just how far parents will go for innocent children, ‘A 2nd CHANCE’ portrays that right vs. wrong is not as black-and-white as it may seem. With almost unwatchable, grim scenes, Bier carries them. ‘A 2nd CHANCE’ is quite a ride, stated KPCC in a recent podcast.

Alongside Coster-Waldau (‘Oblivion’, ‘Mama’), ‘A 2nd CHANCE’ stars award-winning Swedish actress, Maria Bonnevie (‘I Am Dina’), Nikolai Lie Kaas (‘Angels & Demons’), and debuting model, Lykke May Andersen. Supporting are Ulrich Thomsen (‘The Blacklist’), Roland Moller (‘Atomic Blonde’) and Peter Harber (‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’).
